The Marble Falls Middle School seventh-grade B team defeated Lago Vista 2-1 Oct. 17 in its final home match.
“The girls left everything they had on the court,” coach Alyssa Vento said. “I never doubted their strength and resilience to the sport or team one bit. I can always count on each of my players to share encouragement and motivation till the final whistle. I couldn’t be more proud of all of their hard work and dedication to not only the game but to each other.”
After dropping the first set, the Lady Mustangs returned to the court determined to even the match. The score went back and forth until it reached the 20s. That’s when Marble Falls seized control and won the final two points for the 25-22 win to send the match into a third set.
Marble Falls left no doubt it was the better team, quickly racing to a big lead and winning 15-8.
“It feels really good to end the season with a win,” Brooklyn Damico said. “I’m successful because I can serve pretty good. We can come in and call for the ball and have good team work. We had the motivation, and we knew we could do it.”
Devyn Salazar said the team won because it is “a family and kind.”
“We all work together,” she added.
Vento celebrated the win and gave all the credit to the players.
“I want to give a shutout to all the girls on my team for the consistency they had with their passing, serving and communication,” she said. “For weeks on end, they showed up day after day for early morning practices and held each other accountable for their athleticism they left on the court. I am so honored to have been their coach for this season and proud of all their hard work and growth from the first game to now. My last coaching advice to each is to know that the game is only over when you say it is, so keep on pushing yourself for greatness because it only gets better from here. Great job ladies.”
